A non governmental organisation Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has lamented that the use of scarce COVID-19 test kits on politicians is to the detriment of the poor masses in the country.
The body has also gone on to asked the Minister of Health and Director General of Nigeria Center for Disease Control NCDC to make a weekly publication of their spending details in the fight against coronavirus.
In the statement made available by the body on Sunday, the organization said, “We’ve asked the Minister of Health & DG NCDC to publish weekly spending details of funds to combat coronavirus in Nigeria; disclose the numbers of tests carried out on politicians compared with tests for the poorest and the level of enforcement for home quarantine system for politicians”
“Disclose whether spot checks are carried out to ensure strict compliance by politicians in home quarantine.”
“Transparency in the use of funds and operations of the Ministry of Health and NCDC would help to build trust, engage Nigerians and safe lives.”
Recall that their has been allegations against politicians and other highly placed individuals for being in possession of test kits despite the scarcity of such essential apparatus.
