The world football governing body, FIFA has rescheduled its forthcoming congress due to COVID-19.
The body in an information on its website stated that “on account of the spread of COVID-19, numerous international bodies and public health authorities have advised against the organisation of international events. Concerns over the health and well-being of participants, as well as travel restrictions in many countries, have resulted in the cancellation or postponement of many such events in various parts of the world”.
The statement went on to state that “FIFA Council has decided to reschedule the 70th FIFA Congress from Friday 5 June 2020 to Friday 18 September 2020 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia”.
The FIFA congress is one of the sporting invent that has been affected by COVID-19 after the suspension of NBA, Italian Seria A and Spanish Laliga. It remains to be seen if CAF will bow to pressure and also suspend the forthcoming AFCON Qualifies as most of the African players plying their trade in Europe have been directly affected by the wave of the virus.
