Outrage as FG increases fuel price, electricity tariff within 48 hours

There is wide outrage among Nigerians on Wednesday after the federal government approved the the increase of pump price of petrol from N145.80 to N158.

This came in less than 24 hours after the government announced the increase of electricity tariff.

In a memo by the Pipelines and Product Marketing Company and signed by D.O Abalaka, the government wrote “Please be informed that a new product price adjustment has been effected on our payment platform.

“To this end, the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) is now one hundred and fifty-one naira, fifty-six kobo (N151.56k) per litre. This takes effect from September 2, 2020.”

Meanwhile, Nigerians are not taking these increment lying low. Former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose has criticised the increase saying that he had warned Nigerians against electing President Buhari to office.

In a similar reaction, the recently embattled former Minister for Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, frowned at the decision of the government to increase the pump price of fuel at a time the economic hardship occasioned by the outbreak of COVID-19 was biting hard.

“I shouted it on the rooftops morning day and night but the people refused to listen. Instead they insulted me and rejected GEJ. Let them continue with their insults and enjoy their plight. This is a sad testimony but worse of all is that there is far more to come. Sai Baba,” he tweeted.
