Coronavirus: The classless pandemonium

Emphasis on ways to boost immunity against the virus.

Plagues and epidemics have ravaged humanity throughout its existence, often changing the course of the history. Talk about prehistoric epidemics of Circa in 300BC, plague of Athens of 430 BC with death toll projected to be around 100,000, Anonine plague of AD 165-180, The West African Ebola Epidemics 2014-16 when some people turned to pillars of salt in the name of combating Ebola..

Numerous of such plaques have human race survived…

In 2020 , COVID19 took the centre stage as no respecter of class or age, race, religion. This led to World Health Organization on 11th Feb.2020 declaring COVID 19 a global health challenge.

In few decades I have lived on earth, life has never been this boring.

No football.

No social gathering.

Proscription religious gatherings.

Fear, anxiety and ever-increasing mortality index.

All these ably sponsored by classless pandemonium.

0n 22nd March, 2020, the Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) has confirmed new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in Nigeria; the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) and new cases in Lagos and other figures trickling in every second in different States. This brings the total number of confirmed cases in Nigeria to 27.

The world metre through which I monitor the discovery of new cases keeps churning new worrisomely skyrocketing figures every time the website is refreshed.

At this point, permit me to reiterate the precautionary measures we ought to imbibe at this critical period because the rat cannot declare merriment on the food of a man who is wide awake.

The measures include:

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • always wash your hands when you get home or into work
  • use hand sanitizer gel if soap and water are not available
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze.
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
  • avoid close contact with people who have symptoms of coronavirus
  • only travel on public transport if you need to
  • work from home, if you can
  • avoid social activities, such as going to pubs, restaurants, theatres and cinemas
  • avoid events with large groups of people
  • use phone, online services, or apps

Don’ts

  • do not touch your eyes, nose or mouth if your hands are not clean
  • do not have visitors to your home, including friends and family

Glaringly in our very own eyes, the coronavirus has become an unwanted guest causing its host’s demise. And the guest is not even yet ready to leave… consequently and expectedly the host would and ought to dash it a hunch-back by boosting his/her immunity.

Ways of boosting immunity against coronavirus .

This has been one of questions on everyone’s mind as we face a worldwide crisis. We do not yet know how to fully prevent or manage the damage caused by COVID-19. It is pertinent to highlight that some co-morbid health conditions /habits/factors such as Diabetes/cancers/aging etc that affect immunity do have negative impact on the ability to fight against the dreaded virus.

Having noted the above point, there are things that one can do today that do not cost anything. I recommend you prioritize those aforementioned precautionary measures for protecting and improving your health — and potentially your immune system.

While these actions are always important aspects of maintaining good health, they may be crucial during times of increased risk, like now.

These proven habits/lifestyles/attitudes that have been suggested that may serve as immune boosters for one to curb the virus include:

  • Eating low- carbohydrate containing food.
  • Quitting smoking.
  • Getting adequate sleep.
  • Getting right amount of exercise.
  • Reduce your stress
  • Drink Alcohol in moderation
  • Suppléments: vitamine c , vitamine D, zinc etc
  • Eat more fruits and vegetables

In summary, new coronavirus is spreading so rapidly and having such a significant impact on people around the world is that we lack immunity to it. Our immune systems have never seen it before and hence to adopt necessary measures suggested here in order to curtail the fire on the mountain.
