UNIZIK to commence clinical trial for Iwu’s Covid-19 drug

Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka are planning to put the COVID-19 drug developed by Prof Maurice Iwu on clinical trial.

The Vice Chancellor of the School, Prof. Charles Esimone, who is a professor in faculty of Pharmaceutical sciences disclosed this during an interview with the school’s UNIZIK FM.

The Vice Chancellor revealed the commissioning of a clinical trial group of the university known as Biomedicine Research Group.

The Professor of Biopharmaceutical and Pharmaceutical Microbiology stated that the trial which will commence any moment from now will last between six to eight weeks hoping that the outcome will be fruitful while the announcement to the public will be done immediately.

Prof Esimone lamented the limited availability of fund that will help bring his idea to fruition, but was upbeat that the group has made immense progress.

He further disclosed that a lot of proposals and applications have been made by various organizations to enable the university start testing on other drugs developed by the institution.
