All may not be well with the People’s Democratic Party if the news filtering in from the Southeast region is anything to go by.
Investigation by vista.ng has revealed that it is only a matter of time before the party loses another state to the All Progressives Congress after the blow it experienced with the Supreme Court judgment which handed Imo State back to the latter earlier on in the year.
The governor in question is one of the best-performing state governors in the region who is on the last lap of his second term.
Source close to the said governor revealed to vista.ng that he is excited about the possibility of using the APC as a platform towards advancing his ambition for a higher political office.
The said governor is planning to launch a bid to replace President Buhari in 2023 and believe the clamour for Igbo Presidency may help him actualise the dream.
“All things being equal, we will be moving all our structure to the APC to continue with our political journey. Politics is all about movement and interest and my principal is not forbidden from having internet or making moves to actualise such interest,” the source said.
Asked why the said governor cannot stay in PDP and actualise such ambition, the source said: “the party does not seem to trust him. It feels as if some individuals have hijacked the party’s structure and are not willing to release such for an outsider in the 2023 presidential race”.
When vista.ng probed further, it was discovered that the governor in question is also discussing the possibility of being compensated with the vice president’s slot if the party decided on keeping power in the North or the Senate Presidency in an event the party endorse a Southwest/North ticket.
Discussions with the APC hierarchy is said to be an advanced stage with the Mai Buni-led Caretaker and Convention Committee excited about recording another big entrant to the party after the return of Yakubu Dogara.
The source said governor, who recently recovered from COVID-19, has not also ruled out staying back to fight the forces in the PDP but this will take extra intervention of the PDP leadership- that which will, ironically, upset the most influential 2023-primed elements in the fold.
