Governors of the 19 Northern States in Nigeria have rejected the scrapping of the Special Anti-robbery Squad (SARS) unit of the Nigeria Police.
The leader of the Northern Governors Forum, Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State, made this disclosure after a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari on Thursday.
The governors argued thats SARS has been very effective in the fight against insecurity and crime in the region.
“SARS is not made up of bad elements alone as it also includes personnel who are doing their work diligently,” Lalong said.
This will come as rude shock to some quarters after youths in mostly southern part of the country took to the street to protest against the disbanded unit, a protest which has shown no sign of abating in most of the big cities.
