SARS: Police to dialogue with Naira Marley to avert planned protest

In what seems a smart move to avert planned protest against injustices meted against Nigerian youths by SARS which Naira Marley will be leading today, the police leadership have opted for an Instagram live chat with the music star to dampen the rising tension.

Naira Marley has been mobilising Nigerian youths of social media since Sunday for what many saw as one protest that will be huge considering the calibre of followers the artist command.

But in what seems as counter measures by the police, it announced on Tuesday morning that it will engage the ‘Soapy’ crooner to answer questions and discuss concerns of young people on the issue of SARS operations.

The Police, through in a statement wrote : “Today, Tuesday 6th October, 2020, by 11am, the Force PRO- DCP Frank Mba will be having a live instagram chat with Naira Marley to answer questions and discuss the concerns of young Nigerians on the issues of SARS operations and other burning issues. Please stay tuned.”

The Police stated that the Orders and restrictions on the operations of SARS and others already issued by the IGP are just the initial steps out of the many reforms planned for the Tactical Squads.

The Police however noted that the planned reforms of will be in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Youths and Sports and other concerned groups.

“The Leadership of the NPF will work with the Ministry of Youth and other stakeholders, including Youth leaders, youth entrepreneurs, CSOs and others in formulating and implementing consensual reforms,” police authorities said.
