Nigeria government has begged Elon Musk for Ventilators
Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning on Wednesday, 1st of April begged founder of Tesla , Elon Musk to assist the country with 100-500 pieces of ventilators to fight COVID-19.
Elon Musk had taken to his twitter handle to state his company’s willingness to send ventilators to countries in dire need of it. In his words, “We have extra FDA-approved ventilators. Will ship to hospitals worldwide within Tesla delivery regions. Device & shipping cost are free. Only requirement is that the vents are needed immediately for patients, not stored in a warehouse. Please me or @Tesla know”.
The federal ministry of health replied Elon’s tweet with the following tweet, “Dear @Elonmusk @Tesla ,Federal government of Nigeria needs support with 199-500 ventilators to assist with #Covid19 cases arising everyday in Nigeria”.
In a follow up tweet, the Personal Assistant to the President, Bashir Ahmaad, said “Hello Elon, I woke up to this your tweet all over the TL, in this period of worldwide emergency getting ventilators is pretty hard no matter how much money you get, and that’s understandable! Nigeria, my dear country is in need. Kindly send 100s here, we really need them, thanks!”.
Many Nigerians took to twitter to condemn what they view as ‘bambiala’ mentality of the Federal government.
Recall that on March 20th, 2020, Innoson motors announced that they are ready to produce ventilators and other medical equipment. Many Nigeria then asked why the government is not looking at Innoson Motors for help instead of indulging in international begging.
