The former governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko has advised the Federal Government to cushion the effect of the economic downturn being experienced at the moment by given every Nigerian the sum of N20, 000.
In a statement late Tuesday, the presidential aspirant of Zenith Labour Party in the last general elections advised the government to leverage on the BVN data bank to provide details for the effective distribution of this palliative.
In his words,
“We are quick to complain of lack of data, but we have BVN. I’m told we have 40million BVN accounts.
“Adopting a benchmark of annual turnover of N360,000 and assuming that up to 50 percent, i.e. 20million qualify for palliative, say N20,000 each, that will amount to just about N40billion,” he said.
Mimiko now joins the list of Nigerians who have within the last one month called on the FG to implement a far reaching policy that will cushion the effect of hardship being experienced as a result of the outbreak of COVID- 19.
