Kogi COVID-19 controversy: Gunmen invade Federal Medical Centre Lokoja

Federal Medical Centre Lokoja today witnessed a rare occurrence after gunmen stormed its premises in three Hilux trucks and unleashed terror on the hospital’s staff who were planning a press conference/protest to pressure FG into establishing a COVID-19 screening centre in the state.

According to an eye witness, one van barricaded the hospital gate while the other two drove in.

The gunmen shot sporadically into the air to scare people away, then went to the records and admin department, where they carted away laptops and destroyed a number of gadgets. They were also said to have ransacked the office of the Chief Medical Director.

As the siege went on, the hospital management instructed the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) officials in the hospital not to shoot to avoid bloodshed.

At the time of filling this report, gathered that the hospital has been shut down till further notice.

There have been controversy between the Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) over the Covid-19 status of the state.

Governor Bello had insisted that Kogi State maintains a zero positive Covid-19 case, an assertion NCDC countered.

Recently, the Chief Judge of the State passe on in what was suspected to be Covid-19 related. The governor was, however, quick to revealed that his death was caused by phenomenon.
