The lawmakers who were angered by the killings of soldiers who are fighting insurgency and banditry in some parts of Northern Nigeria, overwhelmingly supported a motion moved by the Chairman of its Committee on Army, Senator Ali Ndume.

The Vice-Chairman of the Senate Committee on Customs, Senator Ayo Fadahunsi, further proposed an additional prayer, requesting the service chiefs to step down, a prayer which was seconded by Senator Betty Apiafi.

Recently, there have been renewed attacks by insurgents in the Northeastern part of the country and an explosion of banditry in the Northwest.
