Respite seems to be on the way of traders and other business owners who reside in the Southeastern part of the country as first cargo ship that is due to berth in Onitsha Clarion Terminal.
This announcement was made earlier on the the week through the website of a global shipping giant Maersk.
According to the shipping company, Maersk, Ship leaves Shanghai East Container Terminal, China on Sat October 10, arrives Onne Port Terminal on November 25.
Cargo leaves Onne December 1, arrives Clarion Terminal, Onitsha, December 2.
Reacting to the news, an Onitsha importer, Chukwudebelu Obi, could not hide his excitement while speaking to vista.ng on Wednesday morning.
Mr Obi said that this development if sustained will cause a sudden surge in development of southeast and Southsouth as many business owners will have a good reason to come back home and establish their business.
In August 2020, a Maerskline Stardelhorn vessel, with length overall of 300 metres and width of 48 metres, which is the biggest-ever container vessel to berth at any Nigerian port, berthed at the Onne Port.
The vessel, which has a capacity of 9,971 (TEUs), was a flagship from Singapore.
Nigerians have been clamouring for the decongestion of Lagos Port which causes untold hardship to importers and residents of Lagos.
