The Nigerian Government has threatened to sack striking medical doctors who fail to appear at their duty posts on Wednesday.
The Minister of Health, Osagie Ehanire, issued this threat after a meeting convened by the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, to negotiate with the striking members of National Association of Resident Doctors, NARD on Monday.
A directive has, therefore, been issued to all Chief Medical Directors, CMDs, of its hospitals to open a record-keeping register between 7am and 12 noon each day, from Wednesday to know those who fail to show up for work.
Reports that emerged from the meeting convened by Dr Ngige indicate that the discussion ended in a deadlock after members of the association angrily stormed out of the meeting.
The doctors said they will suspend the strike within 24 hours and come back to negotiation if the government bring something “tangible to the table”.
