President Muhammadu Buhari has officially reacted to #EndSARS protests currently rocking the country, pleading that the protesters be calm and patient.
The President in a statement released on his social media handle Friday night said he met with the Inspector General of Police Friday night to underline the government’s determination to reform the police.
He said he was being briefed regularly on the ongoing reforms to end police brutality and unethical conduct, and to ensure that the force are fully accountable to the people.
The President further assured that he has given firm instructions to IG of police to conclusively address the concerns of Nigerians regarding these excesses, and ensure erring personnel are brought to justice.
He finally appealed “for patience and calm, even as Nigerians freely exercise their right to peacefully make their views known”.
“The vast majority of men and women of the Nigeria Police Force are patriotic and committed to protecting the lives and livelihoods of Nigerians, and we will continue to support them to do their job,” he concluded.
