The Federal Government’s plans to decongest Lagos ports by moving commercial activities to the Niger Delta this weekend got a major boost as the biggest container ship to ever land in Nigeria berthed in Onne Rivers State, with loads of container goods.
The Nigeria Ports Authority through its Twitter handle broke this news on Saturday night.
“The Nigerian Ports Authority is pleased to announce the successful berthing of the biggest Container vessel to ever call at any Nigerian port.”
“The Maerskline Stardelhorn vessel with Length overall of 300 metres, width of 48 metres was received at the Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT), Onne in Rivers State at 1620 hours on Saturday, August 15, 2020.The vessel, which has a capacity of 9,971(TEUs) is a flagship from Singapore,” the tweet revealed.
This news came at a time when it has become a nightmare bringing in containerised cargo to the country because of the delays in clearing through the Lagos Port.
