In the face of the impending economic downturn as a result of coronavirus, President Muhammadu Buhari has pledged to ensure regular payment of staff salaries, pensions and statutory transfer.
This was made known by the Minister of Finance Budget and National Planning, Mrs Zainab Ahmed, in a Channel TV programme, Politics Today.
The president, according to the minister, has also directed that work on critical infrastructure around should continue.
She stated that FG made a review of the situation and had to scale back on some plans so as to bring it into the current reality, noting that the crude oil benchmarks of 57 dollars per barrel in 2020 budget have now been scale it back to 30 dollars.
Ahmed also stated that the government is considering a new strategy for debt servicing obligation by talking to lenders to renegotiate repayment term or even seek stay of debt service to preserve them because of this current emergency.
