Governor Godwin Obaseki’s bid to return to Edo Government House for another term of four years got its biggest boost so far after Federal High Court sitting in Abuja dismissed a suit of certificate forgery brought against the People’s Democratic Party governiship candidate.
Edobor Williams, Ugbesia Abudu Godwin and Amedu Dauda Anakhu in the suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS/553/2020 accused the Governor of forging his Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) certificate in Classical Studies obtained the University of Ibadan.
The plaintiffs claimed the act contravenes section 182(1)(i) of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended). This, the argue, disqualifies Obaseki from running or seeking the office of the governor of Edo State in the forthcoming 2020 governorship election.
However, when the presiding judge, Justice Anwuli Chiekere, called the suit for hearing on Monday, neither the plaintiffs nor their lawyers were in court.
The judge, therefore, struck out the suit paving way for the governor to carry on with his quest for reelection.
