President Muhammadu Buhari has asked Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Festus Keyamo, to commence the recruitment exercise for 774, 000 job openings under the Special Public Works Progamme (SPW).
The Nation reported that Keyamo confirmed the development this development to it on Wednesday in Abuja.
The Minister was said to have got the President’s go-ahead despite the decision of the National Assembly to order the suspension of the programme.
“I have the instructions of my boss, Mr. President, to proceed unhindered,” Keyamo was quoted to have said in a text.
The modalities for the recruitment exercise have become subject of controversy after the minister accused some top Nigerian politicians of trying to hijack the process. He was to go on and had a widely reported squabble with the National Assembly joint committee after he insisted on having his presentation in the glare of the press against the wishes of the lawmakers.
