The Independent National Electoral Commission has warned the All Progressive Congress that it is at the risk of being excluded from the October governiship elections in Ondo State.
The Commission gave this warning in reply to the ruling party’s notification for its gubernatorial primaries for the state which it scheduled for July 12, which was signed only by its Ag. National Secretary, Waziri Bulama.
In a letter signed by its secretary, Mrs Rose Oriaran-Anthony, the Commission said the APC’s notification violated the provision of Article 4.4 of the commission’s regulations and guidelines for the conduct of party primaries, which requires that such notices must be jointly signed by the National Chairman and National Secretary of a political party.
It, therefore, rejected the notification and advised the party to do the needful.
The ruling party will, therefore, be in a race against time to correct and resubmit the letter notifying the body of its date for the exercise.
