Boko Haram: Nigeria’s A-29 Super Tucano fighter jets almost ready

The Nigerian Government will be anticipating to take delivery of the first batch of 12 A-29 Super Tucano jet worth N168.8bn it ordered from the US government in 2018.

Embraer Defense & Security and Sierra Nevada Corporation (SNC) on friday announced the first of 12 A-29 Super Tucano light attack, combat and reconnaissance aircraft for the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) successfully completed its inaugural flight at the production facility in Jacksonville, Florida.

“The aircraft has already been selected by 15 air forces around the world to deliver cost-effective close air support and reconnaissance capabilities”, Aviation Pros said.

Six of the aircraft would be equipped with Forward Looking Infrared System, a technology that senses radiation which is then converted to video output.

According to US AFRICOM, a command that is responsible for military relations with nations and regional organisation in Africa,the Nigerian Air Force is set for training on A-29 Super Tucano.

The program will train an initial cadre of Nigerian personnel, to include both maintenance personnel and pilots, who will become instructors.
