Ayade exempts farmers, petty traders, tricycle operators from paying tax

Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade has exempted farmers, commercial tricycle operators (keke riders), petty traders and other small business owners from paying tax to the state government.

The Governor while inaugurating the state Anti-tax Agency in the state capital, Calabar, also announces that hotels with less than fifty rooms have been also exempted from paying taxes.

The governor argued it was insensitive for taxes to be imposed on these category of people who finds it difficult to eke living in these difficult times.

The Governor posited that that it is better for him to task his brain than to tax a “banana seller who is finding it difficult to survive”, instructing that these categories of people who are covered by the executive order must not to pay money to any government agency or individuals.

He further berated security agents who harass farmers and other small business owners at checkpoints in the bid to extort money from them.
